Highgate House’s Terrace Restaurant Voted ‘Food Hero’ 2011

The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House has, this morning, been announced to be a finalist for a third category in The Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards 2011.


The 'Local Food Hero' category recognises and celebrates local produce and local restaurants which use local produce to provide delicious food. The category focuses on looking for those people and businesses in the food and drink sector in Northamptonshire who go further in producing, supplying, promoting or selling local goods or food services, thereby contributing to the reduction of food miles and carbon emissions.


Nominees of the 'Local Food Hero' category do not 'enter' as such; instead this category is based upon public votes alone. Members of the public casting votes must state the business they wish to nominate for 'Local Food Hero' and provide up to 250 words explaining why they believe this company to be making an outstanding contribution to Food and Drink in Northamptonshire.


The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House's nomination for ‘Local Food Hero' comes in addition to being named finalists for a further two categories is this year's Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards, including ‘Restaurant of the Year' along with just four other Northamptonshire restaurants.

As Jimmy Doherty of Jimmy's Farm explains, "Local food economies bring great benefits in terms of safeguarding rural jobs, sustaining local retailers, providing outlets for local produce and conserving the countryside. If we are to ensure the survival of our rural communities and regional food heritage, there is an urgent need to build on our local food networks."
